SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL YOUTH ORCHESTRA
1964 - 2014

A CELEBRATION OF 50 YEARS IN THE 2OTH YEAR OF DEMOCRACY IN SOUTH AFRICA

“Today, the South African National Youth Orchestra is a national asset, a part of the international family of youth orchestras and making more inroads all the time.  Many past members of the orchestra have gone on to forge international careers in music”.

Of the various courses held by the South African National Youth Orchestra Foundation, the Sasol National Youth Orchestra Course is the flagship programme.  After expert tuition, the course culminates in the formation of an orchestra, which performs a series of concerts.  The Foundation has become one of South Africa’s most successful music institutions.
50th Anniversary Concert

South Africans were treated to two 50th Anniversary concerts.  One concert in Cape Town at the City Hall and one in Soweto, Johannesburg at the Regina Mundi Catholic Church.

Conducted by Grammy Award winner Osmo Vanska a Finnish conductor and musical director of the Minnesota Orchestra.

Pretoria musician Elizabeth de Villiers has played violin for ten years and been a National member of SANYO for one year.  Just one of the many up and coming musicians.
